A politician can stay in office until they are caught in bed with a dead prostitute or a live boy.

Nine Republicans Vote for Impeachment Hearings, Ten Abstain by Ralph Lopez-22 July, 2008-

In a stunning development which fell with the silence of a feather yesterday, 9 Republicans broke with their iron-fisted party to put country first, and voted to send Rep. Dennis Kucinich's article of impeachment HR 1345 to the Judiciary, where Chairman John Conyers will hold hearings on abuses of power by the Bush administration, according to the Congressional Quarterly's CQToday.

Ten Republicans abstained in this critical moment, while only 5 Dems did. The vote was neck and neck at many moments, with "Nays" pulling ahead twice.

Those Republicans are (Yea 238 - Nay 180):

Congressman Kevin Brady (TX)
Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (MD)
Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC)
Representative Don Manzullo (IL)
U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy(PA)
Congressman Ron Paul (TX)
Congressman Dave Reichert (WA)
Congressman Christopher Shays (CT)
Representative Mike Turner (OH)

One of the Republicans, Walter Jones, represents Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, one of the largest Marine bases in the country, and one which has borne heavily the sacrifice of the Iraq War.

In a flagrant political act, the State Department has barred its employees from attending Sen. Barack Obama's speech in Berlin tonight. Under the pretense that he is maintaining political neutrality, the Washington Post reported today, State Department Undersecretary for Management Patrick F. Kennedy has interpreted the Foreign Affairs Manual in the most restrictive way, claiming that he is ensuring that foreign service officials will remain untainted by a "partisan political act."

Partisan political act???!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

I'm at a loss for words. ME. At a loss of words. Kill me now, I'm done.

The truth is that there would probably be few better opportunities for embassy officials to get a feel for the views of the Germans by mixing with them during the rally. Of course, the sentiments expressed by Germans, who worship Obama as much as they loathe George W. Bush, might not be ones that the administration is eager to hear.

Indeed, the administration has a long and tawdry record of trying to browbeat government agencies into submission, whether it's the CIA or the Centers for Disease Control. The State Department is perhaps highest on the list of conservatives and neocons who see it as the center of disloyalty and treachery. But this latest action represents a new low. If it's going to these lengths, the Bush administration must be really worried about Sen. John McCain's prospects.

U.S. troops do not keep counts of Iraqis they kill, whether civilians or gunmen.

Read that again.

U.S. troops do not keep counts of Iraqis they kill, whether civilians or gunmen.

Or to put it another way, the killing of civilians is indiscriminate.

Yay. We're winning, something. I suppose.

Jerry Marszalek, a football coach in Michigan, has lost his job after allowing an assistant to pester Muslim students into becoming Christians. As you can expect, the professional Christian set is not happy about the development and have decided to spin it as yet another act of persecution - against Christians.

According to an article on the Christian Newswire condemning the "persecution", Christian persecution in America has taken on several forms. One of these forms is "a rising intolerance for proselytising".

In recent years, Christian persecution has taken on a variety of forms in the United States--from a rising intolerance for proselytising to the eradication of nearly all historical Christian references in public school textbooks.

Yes, you read that right. You are not allowed to tell a Christian recruiter to leave you alone. If you do so, you are persecuting that Christian. They have a god given right to annoy and it's your job to sit in gracious silence when they start prattling on about the Jebus.

So the next time you hear one whining about big bad atheists being oh so mean to them, remember that they think that anything but complete silence is persecution.

"Evangelical Christians are ridiculed because of the absurdity of their beliefs and not because of who they are or even the group with which they are identified. I'll say it again - evangelicals are mocked because of what they believe. The fact that what they believe has the label of religion attached to it does not make it immune from criticism or mockery."

Well said.

BLITZER: ... Senator McCain was, in his words, basically a cheerleader for the war. And he sees that as the biggest blunder in U.S. foreign policy since the Cold War.

GRAHAM: Yes, all I can tell you is that a world with Saddam Hussein is not a better world.

In the Obama world, Saddam Hussein would still be in power. And you know how the U.N. oil-for-food program was working. I'm glad Saddam Hussein's out of power. I'm glad he's dead. And I'm glad we have a chance to create, in the heart of the Arab world, a Democratic government, where Sunni, Kurds, and Shias can live in peace, reject Iran, and deliver decisive blow against al Qaeda.

BLITZER: So, knowing what you know right now, Senator Graham, and knowing what Senator McCain knows right now, even though there were no WMDs, even though there were no links between Saddam Hussein...

GRAHAM: Absolutely

Bullshit. Our Armies exist for one reason and that is to protect and promote the business interests of American corporations. If our soldiers can volunteer their lives for this purpose then it would seem to me to be only right that the corporations whose interests are being protected should volunteer their profits as well. There is no reason why any business should EVER make a dime off of a war that is purported to be protecting our liberty and freedom.

Someone please explain to me, why is it that a soldiers life is expendable but corporate profits are not.

I mean, if the army is protecting our independence and autonomy and if we are in such grave danger from these supposedly evil forces and young men and women can volunteer their lives and their futures then why are corporations making money from their blood?

It just seems to me that it would be the height of patriotism and duty that GE and Westinghouse and Dupont and all the others members of the military industrial complex would stand firmly behind the lives of the soldiers and volunteer to make a much smaller sacrifice, their profit. Anything less, to me, is unconscionable, and these corporate bloodsuckers should be taken out and hanged for dereliction of their American duty and utter failure to value and honor the sacrifice of our volunteer forces.

These smarmy little shits like Graham are the ones that the world would be better off without.

Meanwhile, not in the news that you are likely to hear...

A new WorldPublicOpinion.org poll of 18 countries finds that in 14 of them people mostly say their government should not take sides in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Just three countries favor taking the Palestinian side (Egypt, Iran, and Turkey) and one is divided (India). No country favors taking Israel's side, including the United States, where 71 percent favor taking neither side.
